Danfoss Series 90 Motor Damaged by High Temperature

These are internal parts from a Sauer Danfoss fixed displacement motor that made part of a closed-loop transmission of a CLAAS harvester. The damage that you can see on the pictures was caused by the loss of lubricating oil film, caused by low viscosity, caused by high oil temperature, caused by a malfunctioning cooling system, caused by a lack of preventive maintenance, caused by lack of general maintenance...

These machines have a small but very important thermal valve that operates the cooler by-pass. This one malfunctioned... The pump ended up looking just about the same... Award-winning pictures are the last two, showing two separated piston heads smashed and melted together by the hydrostatic fury...
