Cavitation Erosion Example - Axial-Piston Pump End Plate

Here you can see an example of how cavitation can damage hydraulic components. In this case, it's an end cap of an axial piston pump. The Cavitation cloud originated in a high-velocity oil-in-oil jet, coming from the side orifice of the valve plate, and collapsed over the end cap surface, causing significant erosion. More on this interesting phenomenon in my post on "Cavitation in Hydraulic Systems".
